Employment and Pension Rights for Ukrainians with Disabilities: What the Law Says.
Balancing Work and Disability Benefits in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian citizens with disabilities are legally permitted to hold official jobs while still receiving their pension payments. According to attorney Maryna Bekalo, collecting both a salary and disability benefits is entirely lawful under current regulations. The Law of Ukraine 'On the Fundamentals of Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities in Ukraine' ensures that individuals with disabilities enjoy equal rights alongside other citizens.
Employers are required by law to hire people with disabilities, which creates additional pathways for their integration into society. The amount of a disability pension depends on the individual's insurance record, which includes the period from when the disability was established up until the age of 60. The state provides 100% of the old-age pension to those classified under Group I disability, a key element of the country's social support system.
“This means that persons with disabilities have the right to work and receive a pension at the same time,” Bekalo stated.
Additionally, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a one-time financial assistance package for certain segments of the population in the summer of 2026, a measure that could improve the financial well-being of citizens with disabilities.
Social Policy and Access to Benefits
Ensuring access to benefits for people with disabilities remains a cornerstone of Ukraine's social policy, helping to promote their active involvement in the country's economy.
This information highlights the government's ongoing efforts to uphold social justice and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The introduction of financial support in 2026 could represent a significant step toward enhancing their quality of life and boosting their economic participation. It is crucial for society to recognize these opportunities and support initiatives that help integrate people with disabilities into active, productive lives.
