Ukraine’s Air Defense Under Strain

According to Espreso.tv: Aviation expert Bohdan Dolintse has highlighted a major vulnerability in Ukraine’s air defense system, particularly when it comes to countering Russian ballistic missiles. The severity of the issue became clear during Russia’s latest large-scale attack, which involved at least 419 aerial targets. According to Dolintse, Ukrainian forces successfully detect and destroy 90–95% of drones and cruise missiles. However, ballistic missiles remain the most difficult threat to neutralize.

Dolintse noted that Russia likely holds hundreds of ballistic, aeroballistic, and quasi-ballistic missiles in storage, underscoring the gravity of the challenge.

“This is no secret to the enemy. They see the results of their strikes and will almost certainly try to exploit this weakness,” said Bohdan Dolintse.
Yuriy Ihnat also emphasized that
“ballistic threats remain the toughest challenge for Ukraine’s air defense,”
pointing to an urgent need for system improvements.

Urgent Call to Upgrade Air Defense Systems

These challenges demand immediate action to boost the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defense, especially amid ongoing Russian threats. The current situation underscores the critical need to modernize the country’s air defense infrastructure to better handle a wide range of missile attacks. Given the active conflict, Ukraine must prioritize the development of new technologies and strategies to strengthen its defensive capabilities. This could involve:

  • acquiring advanced defense systems
  • training personnel to operate these new technologies
