Ukraine's Rapid Advancement in Arms Manufacturing

According to UATV: Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has made remarkable strides in developing its own defense manufacturing capabilities, a critical factor for the nation's resilience. The country's domestic arms production has grown by a factor of thirty-five. In a significant shift, the share of Ukrainian-made weaponry in Ministry of Defense procurements has now reached 82%, while imports have fallen to just 18%. This evolution highlights the growing self-sufficiency of Ukraine's military-industrial complex, a vital strategic asset in a prolonged conflict.

Key Achievements of Ukraine's Military-Industrial Sector

In 2022, the Ukrainian military demonstrated its capacity not only for defense but also for executing successful counter-offensives. That September, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated an area five times larger than what the Russian Federation had captured in the preceding three months. By mid-November 2022, Ukrainian forces had retaken 63% of the territory seized by Russia since February 24. These successes were enabled, in part, by innovative technologies and weaponry developed domestically.

Notable achievements include the 'Neptune' anti-ship missile, which boasts a range of up to 1,000 kilometers.

Military expert Pavlo Lakiychuk noted that 'the Neptune became a key turning point in the naval war.'
Furthermore, 96% of the drones deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are either produced or procured within Ukraine. This indicates a high level of production localization and the army's increasing reliance on domestic developments.

Procurement from domestic manufacturers reached 430 billion hryvnias in 2025.

Arsen Zhumadilov stated: 'The volume of purchases from domestic producers reached almost 430 billion hryvnias.'
Simultaneously, Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasized that 'as of today, more than 50% of the weaponry in the Ukrainian army is of Ukrainian production.' This underscores the active mobilization of resources by Ukraine's defense sector for development and modernization.

In 2025, Ukraine's military-industrial complex attracted over 6 billion dollars in foreign financing, further highlighting the importance of domestic production for national defense. The 'Flamingo' missile, unveiled on August 18, 2025, has a range of up to 3,000 kilometers, opening new strategic possibilities for Ukrainian forces.

These factors collectively demonstrate Ukraine's focused effort to build a robust, independent defense industry centered on its own research and production.

Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, also remarked: 'We are learning from you. You apply innovations in a unique and exceptional manner.'
With this approach, Ukraine is well-positioned to strengthen its defensive capabilities and ensure greater autonomy in the military sphere.

The surge in domestic arms production and the reduction in import dependency reflect Ukraine's strategic course toward bolstering its defense. The critical importance of innovation and indigenous development in the military sector is becoming increasingly evident, which positively impacts the nation's overall security. Additionally, the influx of foreign investment signals strong international interest in Ukraine's defense industry, promising to fuel its further advancement and the modernization of the country's defensive capacities.
