Zelenskyy Confirms Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Targets in St. Petersburg and Krasnodar.
Ukrainian Drones Strike Inside Russia
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian drones struck targets deep within Russian territory overnight, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirming operations in St. Petersburg and the Krasnodar region. The unmanned aircraft traveled roughly 1,000 kilometers to reach St. Petersburg and about 500 kilometers to hit the Krasnodar area. These long-range attacks showcase Ukraine's growing ability to project force far beyond its borders.
Speaking on June 6, Zelenskyy stated that the war must end, but blamed continued aggression from Moscow.
“It is time to end this war. But the Russian leader wants to keep fighting. That is why Ukrainian sanctions are in place against this aggression”he said. The president also warned that
“any actions against Ukraine will receive a fair response”.
Targets and Impact
The strikes hit several key sites, including:
- naval ammunition depots in St. Petersburg,
- a base in Kronstadt,
- an oil depot in the Krasnodar region.
These operations represent a direct response to ongoing Russian aggression, demonstrating that Ukrainian forces can conduct precision strikes at significant distances.
The attacks may signal an escalation in the conflict, as hitting strategic assets on enemy soil shows Ukraine's readiness to retaliate. At the same time, Zelenskyy’s remarks underscore a desire for a peaceful resolution, though with Russia continuing its offensive, tensions remain high. These developments could reshape the war's trajectory and the strategies of both sides in the near future.
