Baltic Nations to Host Ukrainian Drone Experts as Latvia Prepares to Receive Anti-UAV Systems.
Latvia Gets Support Against Russian Drones
According to UATV: Next week, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle specialists will travel to the Baltic region to assist Latvia in countering Russian drone incursions. Latvia has faced repeated violations of its airspace due to Russian UAV activity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that anti-drone systems could be delivered to Latvia by the end of this year.
The Value of Collective Security
According to Zelenskyy, Russia is attempting to create divisions between Ukraine and the Baltic states, as well as Finland. He warned that
“they can change direction to split us in Europe”.
Estonia also plans to adopt Ukraine’s expertise in countering drones, highlighting the critical need for shared security measures.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the urgency of deepening defense cooperation between Ukraine and the Nordic-Baltic nations. She noted that
“Russia is testing us, our ability to respond and defend ourselves”.
Meanwhile, Andris Kulbergs pointed out that 'NATO’s current methods for countering UAVs are ineffective against modern threats'.
Ukraine is also actively working with European and American partners to manufacture air defense systems within European countries. President Zelenskyy stressed that collaboration under the Drone Deals initiative could play a pivotal role in countering Moscow’s provocations, stating that 'it is crucial to bring all technologies and capabilities to Europe'.
The arrival of Ukrainian experts in the Baltic states and the strengthening of the region’s defensive capabilities represent key steps in addressing threats from Russia. Given the ongoing escalation in Eastern Europe, such initiatives can bolster security not only for Latvia but also for neighboring nations. Cooperation between Ukraine and the Baltic countries underscores the importance of regional unity in confronting external challenges.
