Ukraine Strikes Over 40 Russian Targets: How Attacks on Oil and Gas Are Shaping the War.
Ukraine's Defensive Operations
According to UATV: Ukraine's defense forces are continuing their campaign of strikes against Russian military installations and oil and gas infrastructure, including refineries and military bases. The strategic goal is to undermine the Russian Federation's economy and its capacity to wage war. Since the start of the year, Ukrainian forces have already conducted more than 40 attacks on these types of targets.
Major Strikes and Achievements
Among the facilities successfully hit are four oil refineries, five major oil depots, an oil preparation plant, drilling rigs, and terminals. One of the latest attacks, carried out on the night of March 2, targeted the 'Sheskharis' oil terminal and a naval base in Novorossiysk. On February 21, Ukrainian 'Flamingo' cruise missiles struck the 'Votkinsk Plant' in Udmurtia, located 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. This strike marked the longest-range use of cruise missiles in the conflict to date.
On February 25, Ukraine's Special Operations Forces attacked a Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile launcher in temporarily occupied Crimea.
"Preliminary information confirms damage to the terminal's oil loading arms and the S-400 complex's radar station," reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.Satellite imagery taken after the attack showed a large hole in the roof of a workshop.
Ukrainian defense officials emphasize that the war continues because Russia still has the financial resources to produce missiles and drones, pay its soldiers, and fund its propaganda.
"The source of these finances is oil. Russia sells it worldwide through a so-called shadow fleet. If this channel is cut off, the resources for war will sharply decline," the Ukrainian defense department stated. These strikes represent a direct challenge to Russia's primary source of war funding.
As of today, the General Staff reports successful strikes against concentrations of enemy personnel along the front line. 'We see such reports almost daily,' commented spokesman Serhiy Bratchuk. In this way, Ukrainian forces persist in their campaign to degrade the enemy's military capabilities by hitting critically important targets.
The ongoing actions by Ukrainian forces demonstrate an active military strategy aimed at depleting Russia's resources for combat operations. Attacks on critical infrastructure objects could significantly impact Russia's economic situation, particularly its ability to meet military needs. Consequently, the success of these operations may become a pivotal factor in the future dynamics of the conflict.
