No 6,800 Hryvnia Payout: Ukrainian Red Cross Warns of Scam Targeting Personal Data.
Fake Financial Aid Alert
According to Novyny.live: A fraudulent scheme is circulating online, falsely claiming that the Ukrainian Red Cross is offering a financial payout of 6,800 hryvnia. The organization has firmly denied these reports, stating that no such aid program exists. Scammers are using this misinformation to lure Ukrainians into registering for a fake payment initiative, where they are asked to provide personal details and banking information.
The Ukrainian Red Cross emphasizes that it never registers aid recipients on third-party websites. This confirms the scam’s intent: to gain access to individuals’ funds and private data. Similar deceptive offers have appeared before, including a fake 11,900 hryvnia payment supposedly from the UN and Ukrenergo, highlighting a recurring pattern of such fraud attempts.
Documents Scammers Demand
To sign up for the bogus payout program, scammers request a list of documents, including:
- a personal identification document;
- a birth certificate for children under 14;
- documents proving the authority of a legal representative, guardian, or custodian, if applicable;
- a written consent, in any format, authorizing a designated person to receive payments from other family members.
It is worth noting that the actual assistance provided by the organization amounts to 2,100 hryvnia for the third and each subsequent child under six years old. Therefore, citizens should exercise caution and verify any such offers before responding.
Given the economic hardships many Ukrainians face, scammers are exploiting the situation for personal gain. The rise in fake aid proposals underscores the need for greater public awareness about financial scams and fraud prevention. People are urged to stay vigilant and double-check information sources to avoid potential financial losses. When in doubt, it is recommended to contact official organizations for verified details.
