Ukrainian Sea Corridor Withstood: RF Attacks Did Not Stop Port Operations.
Ukrainian sea ports continue to operate despite Russian attacks
Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports have not caused a halt to the "Ukrainian Sea Corridor." Currently, the ports are functioning in their usual mode, and 85 vessels are approaching them, - stated the Deputy Minister of Community and Territory Development Timur Tkachenko.
According to him, enemy policies and shelling do not affect the operation of the "sea corridor." However, it is unknown what the next attacks might lead to and what their consequences will be. Meanwhile, compared to last year, there is an increase in export volumes.
"Russians do not give up in their attempts to stop the operation of the "sea corridor." Their main goal is to completely halt exports and thereby hit our economy. The global market feels the consequences of these attacks as we supply our grain to various countries. The situation with attacks on civilian vessels remains tense," - the Deputy Minister emphasized.
According to the data, in October of this year, the export volume through the "sea corridor" reached 2.1 million tons, of which 1.5 million tons were grain. In comparison, for the entire October 2022, 1.9 million tons were exported through the Black Sea ports, of which 1.4 million tons were grain. In total, 85 vessels are heading to Ukrainian ports.
The Deputy Minister noted that critical infrastructure facilities in sea ports are protected by engineering structures. Specifically, these are approach channels, berths, transformer substations, buildings, and diesel generator installations. Port facilities are also equipped with boom barriers on the recommendation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, preventing enemy drone reconnaissance.
Additionally, gabions and reinforced concrete blocks are used to protect the energy infrastructure of the ports, making it impossible for enemy drones to achieve their goals. However, by using missiles, the enemy may still cause damage.
"Therefore, we need a comprehensive approach to ensuring the safety of people and infrastructure. Strengthening air defense with the help of our partners is necessary," - Tkachenko emphasized.
