Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30 will re-enter orbit: when will it happen

According to Korrespondent.net: On the night of Thursday, October 9, the Ukrainian Earth observation satellite Sich-2-30 (Sich-2-1) is expected to re-enter orbit. This was reported by independent space flight analyst Joseph Remis on social media.

According to his forecast, the descent of the apparatus from orbit will occur between 20:57 and 6:57 Kyiv time.

History of the satellite

The Sich-2-1 satellite was launched into space by SpaceX on January 13, 2022. It became the first apparatus that Ukraine launched into space in the last 11 years.

The satellite was created to obtain images of the Earth's surface in the visible and near-infrared ranges with a resolution of about 7 meters. It was also intended for monitoring the parameters of the planet's magnetosphere.

Communication issues

After the launch, KB Yuzhnoye reported that due to a number of external factors related to the peculiarities of cluster launches,

“it was not possible to establish stable communication with the spacecraft during critically important first sessions and ensure timely construction of its nominal orientation”
.

Six months before the launch, it was noted that the total costs for the launch and operation of this satellite would exceed 140 million hryvnias. In addition, over 170 million hryvnias had already been spent on the development and production of Sich-2-30 at that time.
