Court Orders Ukrposhta to Pay 17,000 UAH for Lost Parcel.
Court Ruling on a Lost International Shipment
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's national postal service, Ukrposhta, has been ordered to pay over 17,000 hryvnias in compensation for a lost international parcel. The decision was handed down on June 1, 2026, by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Dnipro, following a case brought by a woman who had mailed the package back in June 2022.
The contents of the missing parcel were valued at 33,800 hryvnias, though the sender had declared a minimum insured value of 400 euros at the time of shipping. In early August 2022, the woman received a notification that her package had arrived in Dnipro, but after that, all tracking information ceased. Left without her items or any resolution, she took legal action.
Compensation and Implications for Postal Services
Under the court's ruling, the plaintiff is to receive 7,135 hryvnias to cover the lost parcel and the shipping fees she paid. Additionally, the court awarded her 10,000 hryvnias in compensation for moral damages. This brings the total amount Ukrposhta must pay to 17,135 hryvnias.
Beyond the compensation to the sender, the postal operator is also required to pay 1,073 hryvnias in court costs. This ruling marks a significant step in holding postal services accountable for lost international shipments, reinforcing their obligation to meet delivery standards and provide restitution when items go missing.
This case could have a notable impact on how postal services operate in Ukraine, as it sets a legal precedent for compensating customers whose international parcels are lost.
The court's decision underscores the importance of accountability among postal service providers, potentially pushing them to adhere more strictly to delivery protocols and improve the overall customer experience.
