Demand for train tickets triples available supply as Ukrainian railways struggle.
Rail ticket sales under pressure this summer
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is facing a severe shortage of train tickets for the summer season, driven by an insufficient number of railcars. The state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, is grappling with a critical lack of rolling stock due to damage from shelling and infrastructure destruction. As a result, for certain routes, the number of people hoping to buy tickets is three times higher than the number of seats actually available.
Soaring demand worsens the ticket crunch
The situation is made even more difficult by exceptionally high demand for trains, turning ticket purchasing into a major challenge. Passengers searching for seats can use availability alerts to learn about newly released tickets in a timely manner. For added convenience, an auto-purchase feature allows users to secure up to four seats in a single transaction.
This crisis highlights the broader difficulties confronting Ukraine’s transport infrastructure during wartime. The scarcity of rolling stock threatens to limit public mobility, particularly in summer when travel demand traditionally peaks. Ukrzaliznytsia is working to improve the situation, but intense competition for limited seats is likely to heighten frustration among passengers.
