Ukrzaliznytsia Declares War on Alcohol in Trains: Surprise Inspections and Crackdowns Begin.
Alcohol on Ukrzaliznytsia Trains
According to Novyny.live: Passengers on Ukrzaliznytsia trains can purchase alcoholic beverages, but consuming them inside carriages is strictly prohibited. To enforce this rule, the railway operator is launching a series of active measures, including random raids and undercover inspections across passenger trains.
The company is also considering removing alcohol from sale entirely on its Intercity+ routes. These efforts aim to boost passenger safety and comfort during journeys. Previously, it was announced that train evacuations only occur when there is a real threat, making the crackdown on drinking especially critical.
New Railway Connection
Separately, by summer 2026, travelers will be able to reach Bulgaria via a direct train. Oleksiy Kuleba has confirmed that work is underway to launch a railway link between Ukraine and Bulgaria, routing through Romania. This new service, combined with the anti-alcohol campaign, highlights Ukrzaliznytsia's drive to improve service quality and ensure safer travel for all passengers.
The operator's push to curb drinking on board reflects its broader goal of enhancing comfort and security—a key priority amid rising standards in the transport sector. Meanwhile, the upcoming Bulgaria route opens fresh travel opportunities, which could boost Ukraine's tourism potential.
