Ukrzaliznytsia Implements Stricter Safety Measures

According to Novyny.live: On March 24, amid escalating hostilities, Ukraine's national railway operator announced enhanced safety protocols and a new evacuation plan for passengers. The decision was driven by a surge in Russian strikes targeting trains and railway infrastructure across the country.

A series of recent incidents underscores the urgency of these changes. On March 18, a Russian attack hit a locomotive in the Chernihiv region, causing injuries. Earlier, on March 12, Russian drones struck railway facilities in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions. Another alarming event occurred on March 8, when a Russian drone directly hit a train traveling from Kyiv to Sumy.

Passenger Safety Recommendations

In response to these growing threats, Ukrzaliznytsia has assured the public that "dozens of specialists are monitoring threats to every route in real time, 24/7, and are doing everything possible to minimize those threats." This statement highlights the company's commitment to passenger safety.

Beyond general precautions, the railway has issued specific instructions for passengers facing dangerous situations. In the event of a threat, passengers are advised to:

  • Prepare for evacuation immediately;
  • Stay seated until instructed by the conductor;
  • Notify staff if assistance is needed;
  • Leave the carriage via the nearest exit during evacuation;
  • Leave luggage behind;
  • Assist other passengers;
  • Avoid jumping onto the tracks.

Once outside the train, passengers should move quickly to a shelter, avoid gathering near the tracks, and follow all conductor instructions carefully. These rules are critical for ensuring safety during travel, especially amid ongoing military threats. Ukrzaliznytsia urges all passengers to adhere to the new guidelines to protect their health and lives during journeys.

The announced measures reflect the serious challenges facing Ukraine's railway operator and the need to ensure passenger security in a war zone. With attacks on transportation infrastructure becoming more frequent, the company is taking extra steps to safeguard its customers. Such initiatives are vital for maintaining public trust in rail travel during this period of instability.
