Ukrzaliznytsia Updates Pet Travel Regulations for Rail Passengers.
Revised Guidelines for Pet Transport on Trains
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has introduced updated regulations governing the transport of pets, including dogs and cats, in passenger carriages. These revisions aim to enhance the safety and comfort of all travelers, both human and animal.
Under the new rules, small animals such as cats and small-breed dogs measuring under 45 cm at the shoulder may travel in a carriage without a carrier, but only if the passenger purchases all the seats in their compartment. This measure is designed to prevent travel disruptions and ensure a comfortable environment for everyone. Different rules apply for larger dogs exceeding 45 cm in height. They are permitted to travel on the high-speed Intercity+ trains, also under the condition that all seats in the compartment are booked.
Mandatory Requirements for Animal Travel
Furthermore, transporting an animal requires valid veterinary documentation and the purchase of a separate ticket for the pet, costing approximately 20-40 Ukrainian hryvnias. It is important to note that large-breed dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle to ensure the safety of fellow passengers. If any passenger experiences discomfort due to the presence of an animal, they may seek assistance from the train conductor or steward.
These new Ukrzaliznytsia regulations create more convenient conditions for traveling with pets, while also requiring owners to adhere to specific rules and conditions.
The implemented changes to the animal transport rules may positively impact journeys with pets, as they contribute to a more comfortable environment within the train carriages.

Compliance with the new requirements, such as possessing veterinary papers and the mandatory seat purchase, also raises the level of responsibility for pet owners. This, in turn, can reduce the likelihood of conflicts between passengers and ensure a comfortable journey for all. These updates reflect a growing trend of accommodating pets on public transport, balancing the needs of all passengers.
