Ukraine's Railways Overhaul Safety Protocols: Trains to Halt During Air Threats.
Updated Safety Measures at Ukrainian Railways
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) is rolling out new safety rules for passenger services in response to airborne dangers. These steps involve stopping trains and moving travelers to secure locations. Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the company's board chair, outlined the updated procedures designed to protect passengers under challenging circumstances.
Core Elements of the Revised Rules
Under the new framework, trains will come to a standstill when a threat emerges, and operations will only resume once Ukraine's defense forces have neutralized the danger. Before departure, a headcount will confirm all passengers are aboard. Should lengthy delays arise from these halts, Ukrzaliznytsia will provide hot meals—this support will be available at the next station after service restarts.
'There is a precise instruction before the train departs: if a shelter is available at the station, a check will be conducted to ensure people return to their train. The train will proceed only when it is safe.' Oleksandr Pertsovskyi
He further stressed that during extended stops, 'relevant protocols are activated.' In such scenarios, 'we must supply hot meals if the halt lasts several hours, and this will happen at the next station immediately after the train resumes movement.'
Ukrzaliznytsia is also partnering with World Central Kitchen to help distribute hot food during delays. Pertsovskyi highlighted the need for backup buses when trains cannot reach their final destinations due to security issues. 'We maintain constant contact with regional and city administrations,' he added.
These new safety rules aim to shield passengers and ensure their well-being during unpredictable events.
The introduction of these safety protocols comes amid a heightened security environment in Ukraine, driven by the ongoing war. This initiative underscores the priority placed on passenger safety when threats can emerge without warning. Collaboration with international organizations like World Central Kitchen also reflects Ukrzaliznytsia's commitment to upholding high service standards even in difficult conditions.
