Ukraine Imposes Copper Scrap Export Ban in Response to Soaring Shipments and Prices.
Ukraine Restricts Copper Scrap Exports
According to Novyny.live: In response to a domestic shortage, record export volumes, and rising prices, the Ukrainian government has imposed restrictions on the export of copper scrap. These measures, which take effect on January 1, 2026, were triggered by a 53% surge in scrap exports during 2025. Copper is a critical industrial metal, and this policy aims to secure domestic supply for Ukraine's wartime economy.
Regional Copper Scrap Prices
As of February 4, 2026, the price of copper scrap varies significantly by region within Ukraine:
- Kyiv Oblast: 300 to 390 hryvnias per ton
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast: 398 to 450 hryvnias
- Vinnytsia Oblast: 225 to 380 hryvnias
- Lviv Oblast: 350 to 390 hryvnias
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast: 390 to 445 hryvnias
- Odesa Oblast: 335 to 370 hryvnias
- Sumy Oblast: 300 to 410 hryvnias
- Kharkiv Oblast: 369 to 430 hryvnias
In 2025, Poland was the primary destination for Ukrainian copper scrap, receiving 343.6 thousand tons, which accounted for 76.6% of total exports.
Vitaliy Kindrativ, Government Representative: 'During wartime, it is crucial that strategic resources benefit the country and are not shipped abroad.'
This export ban represents a strategic step by authorities to stabilize the domestic market and support the national economy under challenging conditions. The move is designed not only to curb the outflow of raw materials but also to bolster the internal market, which is vital for supplying industry and the population. Amid rising prices and demand for copper scrap, such measures are intended to help preserve Ukraine's economic stability.
