According to Novyny.live: The coastal defenses of Ukraine's Odesa region are failing, with the protective tetrapod structures crumbling during storms. This erosion raises serious concerns about the future safety of these shorelines, which are vital for both communities and ecosystems.

These concrete tetrapods were installed to shield the 'Tuzlivski Lymany' National Nature Park from the erosive force of the Black Sea's waves. However, reports indicate that all 453 units were placed without proper expert assessment and in violation of standard engineering protocols. This flawed installation now threatens catastrophic damage to the coastal ecosystem and local infrastructure.

Expert Warnings and the Need for Assessment

Ivan Russev, an expert from Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University, had warned of these protection risks as early as December 2024. He emphasized that

"to minimize the risks of being swallowed by the sea, specialists must be involved in such critical work."

The deteriorating state of the sea tetrapods is alarming local residents and environmentalists, as their stability is crucial for both public safety and environmental preservation.
