In Antalya, authorities may close more than a thousand hotels due to a single violation.
In the province of Antalya in Turkey, 1,200 hotels may be closed due to violations of fire safety regulations. This was reported by the publication Hurriyet, citing the head of the local chamber of hotels and hostels, Ozcan Sucu. The problem lies in the lack of fire-resistant doors in many hotels and guesthouses that are under municipal control. After the violations were discovered, many hotels were sealed.
Sucu noted that it is impossible to install fire-resistant doors that withstand fire for 30 minutes due to the limited number of manufacturers of such doors. He is requesting to postpone compliance with this regulation until the end of the season.
Inspections came after a fire at the Grand Kartal hotel, where more than 70 people died. In total, more than a hundred hotels have been closed in southern Turkey to ensure safety.
The issue of fire safety concerns not only the province of Antalya. According to preliminary data, 17% of all hotels nationwide are set to close, mostly in Istanbul and popular resorts.
Representatives of the Turkish tourism industry are also demanding to lower hotel prices and cancel all-inclusive services.
