Orbán made a scandalous statement regarding the war in Ukraine.
The advisor to the Prime Minister of Hungary stated that Ukraine's defense against the Russians does not concern the safety of his country. He emphasized that Hungary will avoid conflicts with Russia and called for strengthening security in Europe without interfering in Ukrainian affairs.
'Ukrainians and Russians want to wage war, and both sides have arguments in this conflict. Therefore, we suggest involving neutral mediators who will direct efforts towards both sides'
Hungary supports the possibility of direct negotiations between the USA and Russia, and also considers the start of direct dialogues between Ukraine and Russia as positive. Furthermore, the Hungarian government expressed support for increasing Europe's defense capabilities and raising military expenditures.
Hungary's attitude towards Ukraine's EU accession
Hungary does not support Ukraine's accession to the EU due to the high costs that, according to the Hungarian government, Europeans cannot afford.
It should be noted that Hungarian media reported the death of an ethnic Hungarian in Transcarpathia during mobilization. In response, Hungary imposed sanctions against three Ukrainian military personnel deemed responsible for this incident.
Hungary's position regarding the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the potential accession of the country to the EU causes certain discrepancies with Ukraine and some countries in the European Union.
