Ukrainian mobile operators may face fines for low communication standards during power outages. This was reported by the head of the subcommittee on the development of the digital industry, Serhiy Shtepa.

According to the recommendations of the Committee on Digital Transformation of the Verkhovna Rada, bill No. 11431 should be submitted for consideration by the government institution. Its goal is to ensure the stable operation of mobile operators during power outages.

“The bill provides for increased inspections of communication operators and higher fines for violating the requirements of the National Commission. We want Ukrainians not to lose communication even during prolonged power outages,” Shtepa noted.

Many mobile companies did not take into account the problem of power outages and did not equip their equipment with a sufficient number of backup power sources. This may lead to many subscribers being left without communication, especially in winter. The bill aims to prevent such situations.

Shtepa also stated that the bill has certain remarks from associations representing mobile operators and communication service providers. However, its goal is to ensure reliable communication even during power outages. He hopes that the bill will be passed by the Verkhovna Rada as soon as possible.

It was earlier reported that power outages could occur as early as December, even if generation is restored.
