Three outbreaks of acute intestinal infections recorded in Ukraine
Three outbreaks of acute intestinal infections have been registered in various regions of Ukraine, including Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv, during the week from July 14 to July 20. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

A total of 70 cases of illness have been recorded, including 19 children. All received the necessary medical assistance.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the summer months are the most risky period for infection with acute intestinal infections. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention quickly at the first signs of symptoms.

Prevention of the disease:

  • follow personal hygiene rules;
  • wash hands and products before consumption;
  • avoid consuming products that have been improperly stored;
  • wash fruits and vegetables with clean water before consumption;
  • do not forget to thermally process meat and fish products.

Symptoms of acute intestinal infections

Infection can occur through food or water, swimming in polluted waters, through dirty hands and household items.

Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • dryness in the mouth and throat;
  • high fever with diarrhea and vomiting;
  • abdominal pain;
  • problems with urination.

The main sources of infection are undercooked animal products such as meat, eggs, and milk, as well as unwashed fruits and vegetables. It is important to avoid consuming products past their expiration date or when storage conditions have been violated.

It should be noted that cases of intestinal infection have been observed among tourists in the Transcarpathian region who visited the Shipit waterfall. Also, in the Rivne region, doctors removed a 11 cm long helminth from a woman's eyeball.

Proper hygiene and careful attention to food quality are key to preventing acute intestinal infections, so necessary measures should be taken when preparing food and consuming products.
