Rubio announced a breakthrough in negotiations: what security guarantees Ukraine will receive.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, made a new statement about security guarantees for Ukraine after a meeting at the White House. He noted that negotiations have finally yielded results for the first time in three years.
Rubio commented on progress in negotiations
According to the U.S. Secretary of State, yesterday's meetings in Washington marked the first instance in three years of war where signs of a possible breakthrough in negotiations appeared. He called it 'an important moment' and emphasized that key talks between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European leaders, and NATO's Secretary General are indeed moving forward, but this process 'will take more time.'
Furthermore, Rubio noted that America, together with its allies, is working on security guarantees for Ukraine, specifically to determine their specific format and implementation mechanisms.
'We are working on this right now. Ukrainians have told us that the strongest security guarantee they can offer for their future is a strong army moving forward, and this is another dynamic that has changed. We are no longer providing Ukraine with weapons. We are no longer giving Ukraine money. Now we are selling them weapons, and European countries are paying for it through NATO. They are using NATO to buy weapons and send them to Ukraine. This is another significant change compared to how just a few years ago — for example, during the Biden administration,'
In addition, he noted that the agreement on mineral resources that Ukraine signed in February also serves as a security guarantee.
Recall that Volodymyr Zelensky responded regarding the possibility of foreign peacekeepers appearing in Ukraine. The President of Ukraine also confirmed that he plans to procure weapons from the U.S.
After the meeting in Washington, Ukrainian and American leaders expressed optimism regarding future cooperation and security guarantees for Ukraine, assuring that the negotiation process continues and will require time to achieve concrete results.Read also
