Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries 1,300 km Away and Tankers: What We Know About the July 14 Attack.
Attacks on Russian Military and Economic Targets
According to UATV: On July 14, 2023, units of Ukraine's Defense Forces launched strikes on key Russian military and economic sites. Among the targets hit were oil refineries:
- Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat in the Republic of Bashkortostan;
- Afipsky in Krasnodar Krai.
The distance from the front line is roughly 1,300 km. The Salavat refinery has an annual design capacity of around 10 million tons of oil, while Afipsky can process approximately 6.25 million tons per year.
Additional Strikes and Official Statements
During the operation, Ukrainian forces also struck:
- five tankers;
- five dry cargo ships;
- a harbor tug in the Sea of Azov.
Furthermore, they hit an ammunition depot in Donetsk and a logistics hub in Luhansk. A patrol vessel and a tanker belonging to Russia's shadow fleet were damaged in Gelendzhik.
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the target was hit and a fire broke out at the facility, adding that 'the extent of damage and results of the strike are being clarified.'

These strikes highlight the strategic activity of Ukrainian forces in the conflict with Russia, as well as efforts to inflict economic damage on the enemy by destroying critical infrastructure. Such actions could affect Russia's resource supply and overall military capability, potentially shifting the course of the war. Notably, the attacks were carried out at a considerable distance from the front line, demonstrating the growing effectiveness of Ukraine's naval forces and their ability to conduct deep operations inside enemy territory.
