A Member of Parliament for over 15 years, Jarvis previously served as Mayor of South Yorkshire for four years. His military background includes service as an officer in the Parachute Regiment and participation in operations in:
- Kosovo
- Sierra Leone
- Iraq
- Afghanistan
Prior to this role, Jarvis held the position of Security Minister following Labour's victory in the 2024 general election.
