Authorities suspect Demchak of aiding stock market manipulation and laundering 19.8 million hryvnias. Following a ruling by the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC), he was arrested on July 4, 2024. Detained in Germany in January 2026, he has now been handed over to Ukrainian officials.

Intensified Crackdown on Financial Offenses

Ukraine has ramped up efforts to tackle high-profile crimes, including fraud and illegal land seizures, which have surged during the war. Between 2022 and 2025, several individuals suspected of fraud—including organizers of drone supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine—were extradited. These transfers occurred on the following dates:

In 2022, Ukraine secured 16 extraditions; this number rose to 22 in 2023, 48 in 2024, and 104 in 2025. Additional cases during this period include:

• Vadym Khanenko from Slovakia in August 2023
• Anatolii Voitsekhovskyi from Spain in March 2025

Upcoming extraditions are expected for Ihor Trushenko from Germany in April 2026 and a former head of a financial department from Italy in July 2026.

The ongoing extradition of suspects in financial crimes and other offenses highlights the efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activity.
