The United Kingdom has introduced new sanctions: how they will strangle Russia's financial schemes
Today, August 20, the United Kingdom announced new sanctions aimed at the financial networks that Russia uses to circumvent Western restrictions. This was reported by the British Foreign Office. These measures pertain, in particular, to Kyrgyz Capital Bank, its director Kantemir Chalbaev, as well as the cryptocurrency exchanges Grinex and Meer and the infrastructure of the token A7A5, which is backed by the ruble. The latter, according to the British government, transferred 9.3 billion US dollars through a specialized cryptocurrency exchange created to circumvent sanctions in just four months.
“These decisions are made today against the backdrop of the intensification of efforts by the United Kingdom and international allies to ensure a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine. While killings continue in Ukraine, the United Kingdom and its allies are prepared to intensify pressure on Russia and will continue to tighten sanctions. These new sanctions will tighten the noose around illegal money schemes and demonstrate our determination to stop the mechanisms of evasion of international sanctions that help fund the invasion of Ukraine — wherever they may be,” the UK Foreign Office's statement reads.
The new restrictions supplement over 2,700 existing sanctions of the United Kingdom against Russia. They are aimed at halting the financing of the war and supporting US efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.Recall that the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys has called on the European Union to adopt a new, 19th package of sanctions against Russia to increase pressure on the aggressor country. The announcement of the United Kingdom's new sanctions against Russia's financial schemes is part of a broad international strategy to prohibit circumvention actions and support peace in Ukraine.
