Putin personally chose Trump's negotiator: who is billionaire Witkoff

According to ТСН: Billionaire developer, a long-time partner of US President Donald Trump in golf, has suddenly become the main negotiator with the Kremlin. His rapid success in diplomacy, despite lacking experience in geopolitics, is explained not only by Trump's support but also by the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the publication, after Trump's return to the White House, he appointed Witkoff as his special envoy to the Middle East due to his business experience in Saudi Arabia, which caught Putin's attention.

Sources report that Russian businessman Kirill Dmitriev conveyed an invitation to Witkoff to meet with Putin through the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. But there was one condition: Witkoff had to come alone, without CIA agents, diplomats, or even interpreters, as one participant in the process revealed.

Initially, Trump appointed General Keith Kellogg as his envoy on Russia and Ukraine. However, according to the publication, the Kremlin intervened, and the primary contacts with Russia were handed over to Witkoff, while Kellogg's role was diminished.

Officials in Moscow studied the psychological profiles of Trump's entourage and concluded that Kellogg was unsuitable for negotiations due to his pro-Ukrainian stance. Instead, Witkoff turned out to be more acceptable for dialogue with Russia.

Another reason for Witkoff's appointment may be Putin's desire to move away from American diplomats and establish relationships with businessmen from the US.

Witkoff is aware of the criticism regarding his clumsiness in high diplomacy but assures that he has security and receives briefings before trips to Russia from the National Security Council, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. After meeting with Putin, he usually calls the president, vice president, and secretary of state through a secure line at the US embassy.

For decades, American officials have received special instructions, known as the 'Moscow rules,' which helped mitigate the risks of compromise. However, according to the publication, Witkoff refused to adhere to them, notably not using the State Department's designated translator.

This weekend in Miami, negotiations between US and Russian representatives will take place regarding possible peace. It was previously reported that negotiations involving the Ukrainian side, American, and European partners have concluded in the United States, resulting in agreements on further cooperation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the US is proposing a new trilateral meeting involving American, Ukrainian, and Russian delegations.

Improving relations between the US and Russia could be the key to resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Observers say that such negotiations could open new horizons for dialogue and reduce tensions in the region. The further steps of both sides could determine the direction of cooperation and security in the near future.
