From 28 to 40 hryvnias: how potato prices have changed in Auchan and Megamarket chains.
Potato prices in Ukraine have reached record levels, according to a monitoring of retail chains. In supermarkets ATB, Silpo, and Metro, potatoes can be purchased for 34.75 hryvnias per kilogram. The study also showed that young potatoes in Novus and Auchan chains cost 44.95 hryvnias per kilogram, while loose potatoes in EKO market and Varus stores are available for 34.30 hryvnias.
Experts conducted an analysis of price dynamics since 2017 and found a steady increase in the price of potatoes, particularly noticeable in the last months of 2023-2024. This mainly concerns young potatoes, which appear on supermarket shelves at the beginning of the season.
In the segment of medium-packaged potatoes, there is also a trend towards price increases. In Fozzy and METRO chains, prices range from 32 to 42 hryvnias per kilogram. Potato prices can significantly impact the purchasing power of Ukrainians, as this product is one of the basics in the consumer basket.
Representatives of retail chains explain that the formation of prices is influenced by several factors, including seasonality, logistics costs, and the overall market situation. The highest prices are observed in premium segment supermarkets in the capital, while in regional chains, the price may be slightly lower.
