No Military Specialty Required: How New Rules Make Draft Deferment Easier for Reservists.
Deferment from Mobilization in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is currently discussing new rules for military reservists seeking deferment from mobilization, with a key takeaway being that a person’s military occupational specialty or rank does not determine their eligibility. Citizens registered for military service are classified as 'conscripts.' Until December 2025, they received a registration certificate, but those who turn 25 must exchange this for a military ID document.
Streamlined Status Changes
The process of updating one’s status is now handled electronically, making it more convenient for citizens. Importantly, lacking a military occupational specialty has no bearing on the ability to secure a deferment. Applicants do not need to list their specialty or rank when applying.
As Vladyslav Deriy explains, 'for deferment, you do not need to indicate your military specialty or rank.'
Furthermore, if a citizen replaces their passport with an ID card, they are not required to notify the Territorial Center for Recruitment (TCC). However, the TCC retains the right to mobilize anyone who has changed their status or military document. Yuriy Ayvazyan also emphasizes that 'your employer can easily include you in the deferment list.'
Thus, the absence of a military specialty in one’s documents does not block deferment, allowing many citizens to simplify the process and potentially avoid mobilization.
This update matters amid Ukraine’s ongoing mobilization efforts, where military registration and deferment rules are hot topics. Simplifying the deferment process may help ease social tensions and help citizens adapt to new military obligations. It is worth monitoring further legislative changes on mobilization, as they could significantly impact many Ukrainians’ lives.
