Historian Hrytsak: The war is entering a phase of protracted stagnation without a rapid end.
According to ТСН: The war between Russia and Ukraine is entering a stage of prolonged stagnation, and there are currently no clear signs of its quick conclusion.
This opinion was expressed by historian and professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University, Yaroslav Hrytsak. He noted that the prospects for a peaceful settlement appear unlikely, as the Russian Federation shows no willingness for compromise. Hrytsak characterized Putin's position as 'Stalinist stubbornness'.
Situation in Ukraine and Russia
Hrytsak emphasized that the duration of the war is approaching that of World War I; however, there are no signs of collapse in Ukraine or Russia: economies are functioning, the banking system is operational, and store shelves remain stocked.
Courage of Ukrainian society
Despite significant losses and corruption scandals, Ukrainian society demonstrates 'remarkable resilience,' which Hrytsak calls 'the Ukrainian miracle.' However, he believes that the government has exhausted its innovative potential.
Prospects for Russia
According to Hrytsak's assessments, Russia is gradually transforming into a 'great North Korea' and is on the brink of economic stagnation, having a 'buffer of resilience' for about 3-5 years.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that dictator Putin is not interested in holding any referendum in Ukraine, as he has no intention of ending the war.
Additionally, the United States officially announced for the first time its readiness to ensure Ukraine's security after achieving peace, which may even involve the presence of American troops along the front lines.
These statements by Hrytsak and the claims of the Ukrainian president indicate growing concern regarding the further development of the conflict and the consolidation of international support for Ukraine. In a situation where peace negotiations appear unlikely, the importance of international security guarantees becomes even more pressing. The actions of allies could be crucial in ensuring stability in the region.
