Ukrainian Polar Researchers in Antarctica: How They Survive and Conduct Research.
A journey to the most remote continent on the planet is not a tourist adventure, but a serious test. The documentary film 'Warriors of Science' from the 'Dom' television channel showcased the path of the participants of the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition from Kyiv to the 'Academician Vernadsky' station and explained what is needed for survival in the icy expanse.
To get from Ukraine to Antarctica, one must cover thousands of kilometers and several stages. As host Hennadiy Kurkin describes, the expedition begins with a drive from Kyiv to Warsaw, followed by a flight to Paris, a transit in Santiago (the capital of Chile), from where there is a flight to Punta Arenas, and finally boarding the icebreaker 'Noosphere.' It is this vessel that will cross the Drake Passage and deliver the team to the Ukrainian station 'Academician Vernadsky.'
'Before boarding the 'Noosphere,' it is necessary to load and secure provisions, medications, fuel, scientific equipment... it is essential not only to provide the station with everything necessary but also to deliver useful cargo to other polar stations,' noted Hennadiy Kurkin.
This supply should last approximately 8 months, after which the 'Noosphere' will deliver additional products and equipment. The scientific expedition lasts exactly one year, after which the next group arrives at the station. Antarctica is not only ice and penguins. From a scientific perspective, it is a unique laboratory in the open air. Here, researchers study climate change, ocean ecology, geophysical processes, and the biology of rare species. As researchers note in the film: Antarctica is a window into the world of global science, and it must remain open for Ukraine.
For tourists, visiting the white continent is only possible with licensed guides and comprehensive medical insurance.

A journey to Antarctica is a challenging and exciting path that requires courage, preparation, and discipline. The Ukrainian Antarctic expedition reflects the enormous scientific work being conducted on this unique continent, as well as the need for constant study and preservation of natural resources for future generations.
