From 2026: New travel discounts for soldiers - who benefits and how.
Support for the army: These transport services are available
According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, military personnel are legally entitled to free travel on public transport and discounts for long-distance travel. Since the beginning of the war, many thousands of Ukrainians have defended their country, which is why the state has created special conditions for their mobility.
How soldiers can use buses, trains, and more for free or at a discount
Specifically, the zero-fare regulation applies to urban transport and suburban buses. This ensures necessary mobility during service. In addition, combat participants are entitled to special discounts for long distances:
- One complete free ride every two years;
- Once a year, 50 percent discount on tickets for trains, shipping, airlines, and long-distance buses.
This discount is independent of travel distance or place of residence and is therefore open to every soldier. To utilize it, a combat participant ID or an electronic ticket is sufficient – this simplifies the process and ensures a comfortable journey for those defending the country.
The measures are part of state efforts to relieve the military and their families during the ongoing conflict. Free or discounted transport not only reduces the financial burden but also improves the personal flexibility of soldiers. These initiatives also emphasize societal recognition of their service and the social responsibility of the state.
