More details on the COVID-19 situation
It was announced on the TV channel about the emergence of a new COVID-19 strain in Ukraine named Stratus (XFG). According to doctor of medical sciences and professor of the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Alla Mironenko, the virus has already been confirmed in seven regions and in the capital. Mironenko emphasized that the most vulnerable groups are elderly people, children, and patients with chronic diseases due to their weaker immunity.
'People with such symptoms need to wear masks to avoid endangering others', she emphasized.
The specialist explained that the coronavirus is transmitted through aerosol droplets, meaning during coughing, sneezing, or even if just talking. Thus, droplets with the virus enter the surrounding environment, where they can be inhaled by other people. The doctor urged not to ignore the recommendations of medical professionals and to take care of one's immunity.
Currently, an increase in COVID-19 cases among the elderly is observed in Ukraine. According to the virologist, this is a seasonal phenomenon, but the emergence of the new strain requires special attention to prevent its spread.
