Aston Villa regains form in Rotterdam

According to The Sun: John McGinn shone in another wonderful evening for Aston Villa in Rotterdam, as Unai Emery's team returned to their best form, moving up to the top of the Europa League table.

At the stadium where the club celebrated its greatest European victory in 1982, Villa triumphed over the leaders of the Dutch league, securing victory in their last three matches across all competitions.

Return to De Kuip Stadium

The Midlands club returned to De Kuip in Feyenoord for the first time in 43 years after their historic 1-0 victory over Bayer Munich, when Peter Witche scored after an assist from Tony Mowbray.

The loss of Emiliano Martinez due to injury before the kickoff might have been a good sign for the 2000 fans who supported the team.

Martinez's replacement, Marco Bizot, reminded everyone of the legendary 1982 final, where substitute goalkeeper Nigel Spink came on after ten minutes and had an incredible match.

Both Spink and former Villa defender Kenny Swain were present during the match, where Emiliano Buendia scored brilliantly in the 61st minute and McGinn's calm goal secured the victory.

Strong start in the Europa League

The team now has two consecutive wins and two clean sheets in Europe this season, despite struggling at the start of the Premier League season.

Aston Villa is one of the favorites to win the Europa League after reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League last year, where they lost to the eventual winners PSG by an aggregate score of 4-5.

Villa's head coach Unai Emery has a special talent in this competition.

“Unai Emery has won this tournament three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal, while his Arsenal team lost in the final in 2019,” the news noted.

Bizot's replacement quickly got into the game, taking a serious hit from Ayase Ueda during a corner.

Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie acknowledged that Watkins' name came up often in their pre-match discussions, as he was trying to change the course of the game.

The first half ended goalless, although referee Rade Obrenovic made several mistakes in key decisions.

The first of these occurred when the referee failed to punish defender Anel Ahmedhodzic for a foul on Watkins in the 13th minute.

Villa were under pressure; even after a dangerous moment when Ueda pushed forward, the shot went wide.

“The second important decision came when Feyenoord's goal was unjustly disallowed,” the news highlighted.

Winning match finale

Villa had the opportunity to score again when Buendia made a better run down the flank, and McGinn finished the attack in the 10th minute before the end of the match.

Bizot saved eight out of 19 shots on goal, putting on an excellent performance and making another fantastic stop at the end of the game.

Unai Emery has now achieved 115 wins in 200 matches abroad, as Feyenoord suffered their first home defeat of the season.

Aston Villa is showing stability on the international stage, confirming its status as one of the strongest teams in Europe. As they continue to win matches, the team is aiming for a successful run in the Europa League, hoping to replicate last year's success. In this competitive battle, fan support will be a crucial element for Villa, always motivating the team to victory.
