Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha’s Mission to Panama
According to UATV: On March 13, 2023, Ukraine’s top diplomat, Andrii Sybiha, traveled to the Republic of Panama for high-level talks covering bilateral relations, trade opportunities, and the signing of pivotal accords. This visit marked a significant milestone in deepening cooperation between the two nations, especially as Panama continues to show support for Ukraine on the global stage.
During his stay, Sybiha met with Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha and President José Raúl Mulino. Their discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in areas such as economics and culture. Notably, Panama joined the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, underscoring its commitment to advancing Ukraine’s interests internationally.
Main Achievements of the Visit
The trip yielded several concrete outcomes:
- Adoption of a Bilateral Relations Roadmap extending through 2029;
- Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the diplomatic academies of both countries.
Andrii Sybiha highlighted the importance of these agreements, stating:
“We highly value Panama’s role as a key regional leader.”He also expressed optimism that
“the direct presence of our diplomatic mission will lead to the implementation of mutually beneficial projects.”
A major highlight was the inauguration of the Ukrainian Embassy in Panama City, which Sybiha said will help strengthen bilateral ties. “Thank you for not standing on the sidelines,” he added, expressing gratitude for Panama’s backing of Ukraine during the war. He further emphasized: “Ukraine wants to end this war as soon as possible,” reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.
This visit underscores the growing significance of Ukraine-Panama relations within the broader context of global support for Ukraine.
