Soldier who survived at the front was hit by a jaguar at a crosswalk: The case was brought to court.
According to ТСН: The case of the deadly traffic accident in the Rivne region has been brought to court. In February, 35-year-old soldier Serhij Zabolotskyj, who had suffered serious injuries at the front, tragically died in the rear while crossing the street at a crosswalk.
Serhij's family, who mourns this loss, expressed their concern that the perpetrator, a member of a wealthy family, might escape punishment.
Tragedy at the Crosswalk
The accident occurred when Serhij, returning from his service, was caught under the wheels of an expensive car at the crosswalk.
"The pedestrian was thrown onto the right lane by the impact, where another vehicle ran over him," says Rivne region prosecutor Lyudmila Shevchuk.
Witnesses claim that Serhij was hit by a "spoiled brat" in a "Jaguar".
"Reportedly, he looked around and didn’t even help lift the 'Audi' to retrieve the man's body," says widow Viktoria Zabolotska.
The Relatives Fear That the Driver Will Go Unpunished
Serhij's family – his wife Viktoria and his mother Halyna – are deeply concerned that the perpetrator may escape responsibility. After the accident, the driver of the Jaguar was taken to the hospital, where he spent a month and did not contact the family.
"As people told us who know them, this is an influential family," adds the mother of the deceased, Halyna Zabolotska.
Viktoria heard the perpetrator's voice for the first time when a report about the tragedy was broadcasted on television.
"Our report was aired, and on the same day he called me to apologize," says the widow.
Court and Perpetrator
After nine months of investigation, the case was brought to court. The 29-year-old driver of the Jaguar has been charged as his actions were the cause of the pedestrian's death.
"It was determined that the actions of the 29-year-old driver led to the consequences, namely the death of the pedestrian," says prosecutor Lyudmila Shevchuk.
First Comment from the Defendant
In court, the defendant tried to avoid the gaze of the deceased's family and sought through his lawyer to lift the seizure of his car, but the court rejected this.
The defendant is not in pre-trial detention and has no house arrest as he posted a bail of 60,000 Hryvnias.
He refused to comment on the matter but provided a brief statement.
"I sincerely feel sympathy for those affected, and the worst part is that a soldier has died and we cannot turn back time. I can say nothing further," he admits.
If the defendant's guilt is proven in court, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
This case draws public attention to the issue of driver responsibility in traffic accidents, especially when it involves hitting pedestrians. The family of the deceased hopes for a fair trial and punishment for the perpetrator.
