iPhone 17: When can we expect the novelty?

iPhones always maintain their value in the secondary market, but after the introduction of a new lineup, the prices of older models drop drastically. A company specializing in reselling tech warns that after the presentation of the iPhone 17, prices for other models could fall by up to 30%. This is reported by Express.

Why it is important not to hesitate

Compared to most Android devices, iPhones retain their resale value better, making it generally advantageous to sell them before an upgrade. At the same time, Sam Wilson, director of Gadget GoGo, states that if you intend to finance the purchase of a new smartphone by selling your old one, you have about 30 days until the expected price drop of your current model.

'The resale market for iPhones reacts the same way every year, but most wait for the announcement of new models, which is already too late: the market is saturated with older models and the prices drop,'

— Wilson notes.

Only the announcement of a new series leads to a normal price decline: the Pro and Pro Max models can lose between 8,000 and 16,000 Hryvnias in the first month after the sales start.

So if you plan to sell your iPhone 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max to upgrade to iPhone 17, you should act now. This also applies to older devices – iPhones 13 and 14 generally become cheaper after the successors are introduced.

'Even if your iPhone is several years old, it suddenly loses value after the announcement of new models,'

— Wilson emphasizes.

Rumor has it that Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. If the company sticks to last year's schedule, pre-orders could begin on Friday, September 12, leaving less than 30 days until September 11 to sell your current phone. The lineup will expand with the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max and an ultra-thin model, possibly called the iPhone 17 Air. The series is expected to go on sale on Friday, September 19.

We remind that Apple could raise the price of all four iPhone 17 models by about $50 compared to the iPhone 16 lineup. This is noted in an analytical note by Edison Lee, who points to the expected changes in the range.

Additionally, we have written that there are only about six weeks left until the presentation of the new iPhones, and rumors are becoming more active. The latest photos of the models from insider Sonny Dickson show possible colors of the iPhone 17 series, including a bright orange variant for the Pro model, although the final color palette may vary.

Following the announcement of the new iPhone 17 models, a price drop for the previous versions is expected, so owners of older models should consider selling their phone in the secondary market before the new novelties are released. However, there is no guarantee that the prices for earlier models will remain at the same level until the release of the new iPhones.
