Drivers are facing a 'surprise' of 25 thousand: who will have to pay starting from February.
Ukraine is introducing a tax on luxury cars worth over 3 million UAH
Starting from 2025, a tax on luxury cars costing over 3 million UAH and younger than 5 years will be introduced in Ukraine.
The amount of this tax will be 25 thousand UAH per year. The Ministry of Economic Development will publish a full list of car brands and models that are subject to taxation by February 1, 2025. Owners of elite cars will need to check if their vehicles are on this list.
The tax must be paid for the entire year. However, if a car turns 5 years old during the reporting year, the tax is calculated only for the period up to that moment. For example, if the 5-year term for a car ends in May 2025, the tax will be paid only for 5 months, amounting to 10416.67 UAH.
Last year, the list of cars subject to taxation included premium brands such as Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rivian, and Tesla.
Natural persons who own such cars will receive tax notifications with a requirement to pay the tax by July 1. The payment period will be 60 days from the moment of receiving the notification.
Changes in auto insurance rules
The Cabinet of Ministers made changes to the auto insurance rules. Drivers should be prepared for the innovations.
