Car customs clearance benefits for the military in 2024

Ukrainians were told whether there are benefits for car customs clearance for the military in 2024, reports "Khvylia".

According to the material of Fakty ICTV, in 2024 only a small group of citizens will be able to take advantage of the benefits for car customs clearance, among them - cars for the needs of the military.

After the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, customs duties on car imports were temporarily canceled. This exceptional situation lasted from April 1 to July 1, 2022.

Starting July 1, 2022, Law No. 7418 came into effect, which restored the usual procedure for car customs clearance, including duties, excise taxes, and VAT. However, this does not apply to everyone. In 2024, the possibility of duty-free import of cars for the military will remain. The military will still be able to import cars without paying customs duties.

It is important to note that when importing such cars, certain rules must be followed to avoid problems and the obligation to pay taxes in the future.

The procedure for importing a car that is transferred to military units differs from the usual one. These cars are considered humanitarian aid, not vehicles. They must be handed over to the appropriate military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The use of such cars for personal needs is prohibited.

Humanitarian aid provides for a simplified document processing procedure and exemption from duty payments. Confirmation of this can be a letter from a public or charitable organization addressed to the heads of the Regional Military Administration and the State Customs Service in the region through which the car will be imported.

Military units should send an official request letter about the need for a car. After that, the process of purchasing, delivering, and transferring the car to the military can begin.

A Ukrainian public organization or charitable foundation acts as the buyer according to the documents. To cross the border, a special declaration for exporting humanitarian aid from the EU and obtaining an ID number will need to be prepared.

Thus, in 2024, car customs clearance benefits remain only for the military. Other citizens of Ukraine should pay all necessary taxes.

Even combatants and other special categories of citizens do not have special benefits for car customs clearance. They must also go through the standard customs clearance procedure and pay all necessary fees when importing a car to Ukraine.
