According to Espreso.tv: On June 5, a 49-year-old driver was served a suspicion notice and a request for pre-trial detention after causing a fatal crash in Kyiv. The accident occurred around 5:00 PM when the man, driving a Mercedes-Benz, veered off the roadway and plowed into an underground pedestrian crossing. Four pedestrians lost their lives in the incident, including two district police officers, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Three other individuals sustained injuries.

At the time of the crash, the driver was sober. He serves as the head of a religious community of Evangelical Christian Baptists known as the 'Church of the Village of Pidstepne.' Records show that since January 2025, he has been cited five times for speeding, and over the past 18 months, he has accumulated 10 traffic fines. His vehicle has been linked to 39 traffic violations, 18 of which occurred last year alone.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the court will ultimately decide on the detention measure for the driver.
