Volkswagen stops production of Touareg: what awaits the legendary crossover

According to Korrespondent.net: Volkswagen has officially announced the end of production of the Touareg model next year, concluding more than 20 years of history for one of the brand's most famous crossovers, according to Carscoops. The German automaker noted that the name Touareg will not disappear — it may return in the future as a fully electric model.

Farewell version and features

The last version is named Touareg Final Edition. This is not a separate trim but a special package available for the entire lineup. Vehicles will be adorned with the Final Edition inscription engraved on the rear pillars, illuminated door sills, and decorative elements in the interior. In the top versions, this inscription will even appear on the leather gear shift lever.

Trims and specifications

The base version of the car will be equipped with seat heating and 18-way adjustment, a curved display system, 18-inch wheels, and a full set of driver assistance electronics. The Elegance trim will add IQ.Light matrix headlights, 3D taillights, chrome exhaust tips, and wood or aluminum trim. The R-Line variant will offer sporty accents, while the Touareg R Hybrid will combine all the best solutions — 22-inch wheels with blue brake calipers and a hybrid engine with 456 hp and 700 Nm of torque.

Prices for the Final Edition in Germany start at €75025 and reach €103005 for the hybrid Touareg R version. Orders will be accepted until March 2026.

The future of the model

Although Volkswagen has not officially announced a successor, the press release mentioned 'Touareg with an internal combustion engine', hinting at a potential return of the model as the ID.Touareg electric vehicle around 2029. It could become the flagship of VW's electric lineup on the new SSP platform, which will be the next step after Porsche's Cayenne Electric.

Recall that earlier it was reported that Volkswagen showcased the first photos of the electric Polo.
