This promotion is part of the Tax Equality Day.

For example, by ordering food and drinks for £10, you will only pay £9.25.

A pint of Ruddles Best, one of the cheapest at Wetherspoons, will cost only £1.66.

The big breakfast will cost you £6.87 today instead of £7.43.

A pint of Kopparberg usually costs £2.79, but today it’s only £2.58.

Please note that prices at Wetherspoons may vary from pub to pub.

The offer applies to all food and drinks in Wetherspoons pubs in Northern Ireland, Wales, and England. In Scotland, the discount only applies to food and non-alcoholic drinks.

To get the discount, you don’t need to do anything — it will already be included in your bill.

To find the nearest pub you can use the tool on the Wetherspoons website or app.

Founder’s opinion

This promotion aims to raise awareness of the taxes that hospitality establishments pay. Wetherspoons founder, Sir Tim Martin, considers them unfair.

He has been fighting this issue for many years.

All products and drinks in UK pubs are subject to 20% VAT.

In contrast, supermarkets do not pay tax on food, allowing them to lower drink prices compared to pubs.

Sir Tim calls for a reduction in the VAT rate to 12.5%.

“The biggest threat to the hospitality industry is the large difference in tax policy between pubs, restaurants, and supermarkets,” he noted ahead of Tax Equality Day.
“Pubs have been under extraordinary pressure for decades due to the tax peculiarities they face compared to supermarkets.”
“It’s not sensible for the hospitality industry to subsidize supermarkets.”
“Reducing VAT to 12.5% is essential for pubs, bars, and restaurants to not close but thrive, invest, and create new jobs.”

Latest data shows that eight pubs in the UK are closing every week due to high maintenance costs and rising taxes.

Government data revealed that 209 pubs were closed in the first half of the year.

The total number of closed pubs over the last five years reached 2,283.

Industry leaders claim that rising maintenance and wage costs play a significant role in this situation.

Hospitality establishments are also experiencing a decline in discounts on business rates, resulting in an additional tax burden of £215 million.
