The Amanda Knox Case: new Disney+ series on wrongful murder accusation.
According to The Sun: The Amanda Knox case has been discussed for over two decades following her wrongful conviction for murder.
This time, Knox is once again in the spotlight — 18 years after the murder of Meredith Kercher, a new eight-part drama project has emerged that highlights her tireless fight for justice.
PA:Press AssociationMeredith Kercher was murdered in 2007 in Perugia, Italy.
Despite the truth in this case being established only a few years later, the series explores why society and authorities stubbornly clung to false decisions.
For almost four years, Knox was behind bars for a crime that occurred while she was studying in Italy.
The series also shows how Amanda Knox was ultimately exonerated in the murder case of Meredith Kercher, who died from strangulation, sexual assault, and a murder weapon that left marks on her body.
Who killed Meredith Kercher?
At the time of the murder, Knox was dating Raffaele Sollecito, and both became suspects in the case along with Knox's employer, Patrick Lumumba.

They found fragments of a man's DNA that had left a bloody imprint on a pillowcase found at the crime scene.
This imprint belonged to Rudy Hermann Guede, a 20-year-old Ivorian who had lived in Italy since he was five.
Guede admitted he was in the apartment with Meredith at the time of her death. He claimed they had arranged to meet the previous evening and had sexual intercourse.
Not only was Guede's DNA found on the victim's body, but also on her bra and in the apartment.
Guede was sentenced to 16 years in 2008, however, the verdict contained provisions that he did not act alone.
His sentence was later reduced during an appeal, and in 2021, he was released early for good behavior.
What happened to Amanda Knox?
After being convicted of Kercher's murder in 2009, Knox received a 26-year prison sentence.
In 2011, Knox and Sollecito were found innocent after a retrial when errors in DNA evidence collection were discovered.

In March 2013, investigators announced a retrial as prosecutors pointed out that a crucial piece of DNA evidence had been overlooked, and in 2015, Knox's and Sollecito's convictions were ultimately overturned by Italy's highest court.
Despite being acquitted of the murder charge, in 2023, a Florence appeal court sentenced Knox to three years for defamation after she wrongly accused Lumumba of Kercher's murder.

Since Knox had already spent four years in prison, according to VOA News, she cannot be detained again.

The series reveals the details of Knox's arrest, her controversial interrogation, and the trial.
As showrunner K. J. Steinberg noted, the focus of the show is on Knox's personality rather than the image created by the Italian authorities and media. It is a matter of justice and truth, which remains relevant even years after the events.
