Windows 11 Hits One Billion Users, Surpassing Windows 10's Adoption Pace.
A Major Milestone for Windows 11
According to Novyny.live: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced during the Q2 2026 earnings report that Windows 11 surpassed one billion users in the holiday quarter of 2025. This achievement came approximately four months faster than its predecessor, Windows 10. The user base for Windows 11 has grown by over 45% year-over-year, demonstrating strong demand for the operating system. This growth is a key indicator of Microsoft's continued dominance in the PC software market.
Outpacing Its Predecessor
Windows 11 reached the one-billion-user mark in 1,576 days, while Windows 10 took 1,706 days to achieve the same feat. This four-month lead highlights a faster adoption rate for the newer OS. The end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, likely served as a significant catalyst, encouraging users to upgrade to the current platform.
"Windows 11 is used by 'nearly a billion people'," noted Pavan Davuluri.
Consequently, Microsoft is strengthening its market position as users increasingly choose Windows 11 as their primary operating system.
Reaching one billion users is a critical milestone for Microsoft, signifying the success of its strategy to integrate new technologies and improve the user experience. With Windows 10 support now concluded, the migration to Windows 11 also reflects growing interest in the new features and capabilities it offers.
