According to The Sun: In Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, a horrific rape has occurred. As a result of the incident, a suspect has been arrested - a minor.

According to Le Parisien, the man forcibly dragged the victim behind a bush at night, after which he committed the rape. The cries of the victim were heard by patrols passing nearby.

The suspect was arrested at the scene. He claims to be a 17-year-old of Libyan nationality, although the prosecution stated:

“His identity is currently being verified.”

It is believed that the victim is a citizen of Ukraine. The prosecution also emphasized that the woman needs to be re-interrogated as

“the victim does not speak French and was drunk during the police intervention.”

Crime Statistics

According to information from the Paris police, one rape was recorded in the Champs-de-Mars area in 2024, while there were five such cases in 2023. Seven sexual assaults were also recorded in 2024 compared to nine in 2023.

The area around the Eiffel Tower is constantly monitored: there are 30 controlled cameras, 85 stationary cameras, and ten additional cameras in the Trocadéro gardens.

This tragedy highlights the issue of safety in large cities, especially in tourist areas. The questions of protecting women and preventing sexual violence remain extremely relevant, and its consequences may impact Paris's reputation as a safe city for tourists.
