Reduction of tax benefits for workers
The plan being developed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves could lead to financial losses of £22,000 for workers who diligently save. In the upcoming budget, Reeves plans to limit the amount of money that employees can contribute to their pension accounts tax-free through the salary sacrifice scheme.Under the salary sacrifice scheme, employees agree to reduce a portion of their gross salary in exchange for their employer transferring the same amount into their pension savings.“This decision could significantly impact the financial future of many people,” experts say. This change may negatively affect pension savings and workers' savings, which in turn raises concerns among employees about their financial security in the future. In the context of an aging population and rising living costs, these changes could complicate financial planning for many.
