YouTube fights against ad blockers: why creators' views have sharply declined.
According to Korrespondent.net: Since mid-August, many content creators on YouTube have noticed a significant decrease in the number of views for their videos. In some cases, this figure has nearly halved, as reported by 9to5Google. Although there have been no official comments from the company yet, analysts' data and indirect statements from Google indicate a possible reason — the use of ad blockers.
View statistics on different devices
British YouTuber Josh Strife Hayes noted that the number of views on televisions, smartphones, and tablets remained stable, while views from computers dropped by about 50%. Similar observations were also confirmed by the tech channel TechLinked.
The impact of ad blockers on statistics
Google has reported that 'viewers who use ad blockers and other content restriction tools can affect the accuracy of view counts.' In particular, channels with a large share of such audiences especially feel changes in traffic during updates for these extensions.
The company also denied claims about the impact of new age verification tools based on artificial intelligence.
Consequences for advertising revenue
Despite the drop in views, advertising revenues remained stable. This may indicate that views from computers, where blockers are most common, are not counted by the system. This conclusion aligns with YouTube's official statement about 'the impact of blockers on the accuracy of statistics.'
It was previously reported that YouTube is introducing stricter monetization rules.
The noted decline in YouTube views raises concerns among content creators, as it may affect their ability to earn on the platform. In a climate where more and more users are blocking ads, content producers may be forced to seek new ways to attract audiences and monetize their videos. These changes indicate the need for YouTube policies that would support a balance between the interests of viewers and creators.
