New Financial Proof Requirements for Ukrainian Travelers

According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, Ukrainian citizens planning to enter the European Union will face new financial proof requirements at the border. These rules are designed to ensure travelers have sufficient cash or funds to cover their stay within the EU.

Varying Financial Thresholds Across Member States

According to a decree issued by Poland's Ministry of Internal Affairs on February 23, 2015, the minimum required funds for entry into Poland are:

  • 300 Polish złoty for trips lasting up to 4 days;
  • 75 złoty per day for stays exceeding 4 days.

Neighboring Hungary sets a much lower daily requirement of just 3 euros, while Slovakia mandates 56 euros per day. Currently, Romania has no published data regarding financial checks at its border.

Within Ukraine, a Cabinet of Ministers decree from December 4, 2013 (No. 884) stipulates that the financial proof required at the Ukrainian border equals 20 times the monthly subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons. Furthermore, by the end of 2026, Ukrainians will need to pay a 20-euro fee for an EU border crossing permit. These changes align Ukraine's travel documentation processes more closely with European standards.

The implementation of the ETIAS travel authorization system, which serves as an additional security screening for visa-exempt travelers, will also affect how Ukrainian citizens prepare for trips to Europe.

Therefore, Ukrainians should prepare in advance for these new requirements to avoid potential difficulties when crossing the border.

It is particularly important to understand what specific cash amounts or bank funds are necessary to meet the new conditions.

The new financial proof rules underscore the importance of compliance with border regulations for Ukrainian travelers. These changes may influence the number of tourists planning EU visits and encourage more meticulous trip planning. With the ETIAS system coming into effect, Ukrainians must stay informed about all updates to prevent unexpected issues during border crossings.
