The monkey was running through the streets of Hostomel: the animal was transferred to the Kyiv Zoo.
According to ТСН: The residents of Kyiv were struck by the story of the monkey that wandered the streets of Hostomel, near Kyiv. Currently, this animal is at the Kyiv Zoo.
Problems with keeping the animal
"The monkey was kept in Hostomel in a private household under inadequate conditions. The male is very stressed. Animal rights activists rescued the monkey and handed it over to us. This is a macaque, approximately 10 years old, and its condition is deep stress," said Kyrylo Trantyn, director of the Kyiv Zoo, to TSN.ua.
Trantyn expressed outrage at how people treat the animal.
"The monkey in Hostomel sounds very strange and wild, considering the weather conditions. It's unfortunate that our citizens treat animals this way, taking them for entertainment and then failing to provide proper care, feeding, and basic maintenance," says the director of the Kyiv Zoo.
The condition of the animal and its future
At the moment, the animal is under strict quarantine at the Kyiv Zoo. It is worth noting that the zoo does not deal with macaques, and there are no representatives of this species in their collection.
"The male macaque will be under strict quarantine for a month, and afterwards there will be rehabilitation and treatment, we will monitor him. But I think we will already be talking to our partners about sending the animal to Spain, as we have no available space for its keeping. The macaque is not a rare species, but they are animals with a complicated character that require good care and suitable conditions for keeping, not cluttered corners in the private sector of Hostomel," adds Kyrylo Trantyn.
Earlier, there was also a report of a case in Hostomel when a monkey escaped from its owners and ran through the streets.
This situation once again emphasizes how important it is to responsibly handle exotic animals. Authorities and animal rights activists urge people to be more attentive to the needs of animals and not to take them in without adequate knowledge and means for care. We hope that in the future such cases will become rare, and animals will receive proper living conditions.
