The West is attempting to launch a new wave of pressure on Kyiv to achieve negotiations and cease the war initiated by Russia. This is reported by the Spanish newspaper El País.

According to the publication, the shift in the attitude of Ukraine's Western allies regarding the necessity of talks with Russia is confirmed by the reduced support for President Zelensky during his recent visit to the USA.

Although the Ukrainian leader can count on further financial aid from Washington, there is no agreement yet on the use of long-range American missiles against targets on Russian territory. El País notes that the Russian offensive operation in the Donetsk direction has been ongoing since this summer. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not been able to change the situation.

The newspaper also points to the West's distraction from Ukraine due to the situation in the Middle East, especially after the start of Israel's military operation in southern Lebanon and the escalation between Israel and Iran. For Ukraine, Time plays an important role, especially with the upcoming presidential elections in the USA in November, where Donald Trump could win.

Kyiv protested after the West's statements about possible scenarios for ending the war, which involve concessions from Ukraine. In particular, in September, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested temporarily transferring Crimea under the UN mandate with the subsequent holding of a referendum on the peninsula.

Ukrainian expert Mykhailo Samus, cited by El País, notes the change in attitudes of Ukraine's allies and increasingly frequent discussions about a "pragmatic conclusion to the war." According to him, "providing Ukraine access to the Black Sea is an existential issue." The expert also emphasizes the importance of weakening Russia's positions in Crimea before any negotiations begin.
